In July 1977, a small circle of friends convened at the Weissenhof Estate to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Deutsche Werkbund Exhibition in Stuttgart. They decided to campaign for the restoration of the buildings that had fallen into disrepair.
On November 17th,1979, the non-profit organization Friends of the Weissenhof Estate was officially registered. The first board included Bodo Rasch, Mia Seeger and Frei Otto. The friends continue to be active on issues of renovation while sharing their historical knowledge of the Estate and its significance. Since 2006, the organization runs the Weissenhof Museum in the Le Corbusier House. While presenting exhibitions along with a cultural program in the Weissenhof Werkstatt, within the Mies van der Rohe House.

Commissioned by the Friends of the Weissenhofsiedlung, the artists Ann-Kathrin Müller & Julia Schäfer are developing a site-specific work. Based on Richard Döcker's building at Bruckmannweg 10 in the Weissenhofsiedlung, which was destroyed in 1944, their project illuminates the (in)visibility of monuments in urban space and the urban planning of post-war modernism from a feminist perspective.
