As curator of Hamburg’s HafenCity, Ellen Blumenstein (artistic director) has been developing long-term strategies since 2017 that make cultural issues accessible to a diverse public. With the urban fiction IMAGINE THE CITY she developed, real and fictional elements of urban space are deliberately intertwined, making it clear that culture is never just something additional, but always actively participates in the creation of an area's identity. By interlinking urban planning and aesthetic strategies, IMAGINE THE CITY also positions itself in an international context and wants to contribute to current discussions about the role of culture in the development of future cities.
