With A Pattern of Turbulence, the artist creates an outdoor in situ artwork, as well as an open research project exposing and amplifying the city’s unique wind turbulences. Urban wind canyons can result from the erroneous translation of architectural models or masterplans to the built environment. In this sense, the city creates turbulences–in, and for itself. This fosters what planners refer to as 'wind nuisance', which may significantly affect daily life at ground level. Drawing public attention to these elements, and unveiling the unique turbulences of the city, Haseeb Ahmed combines both literal and metaphorical aspects of his work.
